Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) on Thursday named West Singhbhum all-rounder Anukul Roy for leading a 15-member state squad in inter-zonal Under-19 Vinoo Mankad One Day Trophy (East Zone) to be held in Dhanbad from October 2 to 10.

Roy (18), who hails from neighbouring Bihar but plays for West Singhbhum in local tourneys, showed good leadership in 8th All India Vaibhav Memorial tournament in Meerut earlier this month. He is dependable and has the capability of graduating to the senior side, making him first choice for the captaincy.

Other members of the outfit, announced by JSCA secretary Rajesh Verma, are Vivek Kumar, Shresth Sagar (wicket-keeper), Atul Singh Surwar, Utkarsh Singh, Amit Pal, Anurag Sanjay, Bal Krishna Sharma, Vivekanand Tiwary, Nishikant Kumar, Vinayak Vikram, Aditya Singh, Ayan Choudhary, Shubham Kumar and Aryaman Sen.

Verma said the team was balanced and expected to come out good in the upcoming tournament. "The team has been picked after three training camps on the basis of the merit and form of the boys," he said.

Besides Jharkhand, Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Tripura and the Northeast teams will vie for the zonal cup.

Jharkhand will start their campaign against Bengal on Day One itself.
