Some are speaking of garbage-free vicinities while many are selling the dreams of constant power and water supply.
Yes, it's the season of promises and make-believe scenarios as mayoral candidates of Dhanbad and Chas (Bokaro) unveil their manifestos, promising the moon to voters as far as offering civic amenities are concerned.
Leading the bandwagon is Parinda Singh, daughter-in-law of former Bokaro MLA Samresh Singh, who is eyeing the top chair at Chas Municipal Corporation with a bagful of promises like a proper traffic system for the township, completion of the much-delayed water supply scheme, a drainage system et al.
In her 22-point manifesto, released at her election office in Bokaro, the PhD degree-holder in history from Delhi University also mentioned starting an online application system for death and birth certificates and other documents.
"My other priority is to ensure round-the-clock supply of electricity in Chas for which a power substation will be established. Also, the responsibility of maintenance of str-eet lights will be given to ward commissioners," she said.
Mayoral candidate for Dhanbad Sadanand Mahto alias Mantu Mahto, also the district president of Ajsu, released a 21-point manifesto at Karkend on Wednesday, saying that he would restart the solid waste management project in Dhanbad.
"I will also ensure rationalisation of taxes like water tax as I feel that these create unnecessary burden on common people," said Mahto, adding that speedy implementation of the renovation and beautification of historic Raja Talab in Jharia would be on his agenda as well.
"As several areas of Dhanbad, including Katras, are reeling under acute water scarcity, I will ensure construction of wells and ponds in different areas," Mahto said.
In his manifesto released on Tuesday, Congress's former Dhanbad town president and mayoral aspirant Ravindra Verma spoke of an improved traffic system by constructing bridges, which will reduce the load of vehicles on already congested roads.
"I will also go for underground cabling of electric wires as open wires pose a danger to house owners," said Verma.
Another in the race for Dhanbad mayor's post, Rajkumar Agarwal, said he would improve the water supply system if voted to power.
"I plan to repair the pipelines and motor pumps of Mineral Area development Authority (Mada) in Chas," said the former district president of BJP, who released his manifesto last week.
