Jamshedpur, Feb. 20: That extra layer of cheese that would have made your sandwich, and your day, will no longer be just a thought.

In a first in the city, and of course the state, The Regent hotel will start a make-your-own sandwich bar from tomorrow where the customers will dictate the terms ? rather the contents ? of his favourite sandwich.

From grilled sandwiches stuffed with thick layers of cheese and chicken to toasted sandwiches with a layer of baked egg, ham and chilly sauce, it promises to be the sandwich lover?s paradise.

Housed at the Cinnamon, a 24-hour coffee shop in the hotel, the bar will also offer options of creating soups, snacks and dessert ? according to the customer?s taste and imagination.

?It is one of most novel step taken by our hotel and we are hopeful that it will pave the way for innovative menu,? said Swaroop Chakravorty, head food and beverages.

He said the bar would provide the customers a wide variety of sandwiches, like plain, grilled and toasted, to choose from. He said the taste is fast changing and rather than serving food as per the hotel chef?s choice, it has become essential to help the customers select their own stuff.

?We will provide them all the ingredients like chicken, egg, cheese, ham, mushrooms and tomatoes. They can choose which items they want to be clubbed in the sandwich,? said Chakravorty.

He said the attendants at the bar would prepare the sandwiches according to the directions from the customer.

For better services, the hotel has also added another restaurant, Equinox, that will serve a range of dishes from various states of country. The 64-seater restaurant will also be inaugurated tomorrow.

?Usually, food served in the city hotels are mostly based on north Indian cuisine. But we will give them a taste of every state,? said Chakravorty.

?The new facilities would help cater to a wide segment,? said Vijay Kumar, general manager of the hotel.
