A newly-wed woman, Mamta Devi, a resident of Datam village in Huntergunj of Chatra district, died in a lightning strike at Garwaiyan village along the Jharkhand-Bihar at Chatra while returning to her in-laws’ place.
She was married to Pramod Bharti, 22, on June 29. They were returning to Gaya on bike and heavy rains started. Pramod asked his wife to walk for a few metres as the road had potholes. However, lightning struck, killing her on the spot.
Pramod sustained severe burn injuries.
A second incident took place at Hazaribagh on Saturday morning where a speeding vehicle crushed to death a scooter rider on the Hazaribagh-Giridih road near Banhe Mor in Tatijharia block.
The victim was identified as Mehtab Ansari, 25, of Barkagaon block, currently residing at Hashmia colony of Hazaribagh town. He worked for a private firm.
The body was sent for postmortem to Hazaribagh Medical College and Hospital.
10-year-old tests Covid positive
A 10-year-old boy, who came from New Delhi with his mother and was in home quarantine, tested Covid-19 in Bokaro. His mother tested negative.
The boy has been shifted to the covid ward of Bokaro General Hospital (BGH). Contact tracing is underway.
This is the fourth case which surfaced in Bokaro township and the number of active cases has gone up to 12.
On Saturday, 211 samples were collected, of which 149 samples have been sent to PMCH Dhanbad and 62 samples from True Net for investigation.
Deputy commissioner Mukesh Kumar has appealed to the people of the district, especially to the residents of the urban area, to be careful.
Amit Renu takes charge as Giridih SP
Superintendent of police Amit Renu took charge in Giridih at the police line office on Saturday. He is the 36th superintendent of police of the district.
Renu is an IPS officer of the 2016 batch. Earlier, he was working as a rural SP in Dhanbad district. His predecessor Surendra Kumar Jha has been transferred as Ranchi senior superintendent of police.
He has also worked for the IRS service and is originally from Deoghar district. Renu told reporters that elimination of naxalism will be his priority, apart from providing people-friendly policing.
Body found
The body of an unidentified youth was found in the rack of a goods train in the marshalling yard of Sindri railway station on Saturday morning.
A team of government railway police sent the body to the mortuary of Patna Medical College and Hospital.
However, no one has come forward to identify the body.
Central unions’ coal strike continues
The three-day strike of the joint front of all central trade unions against the central government decision to allow commercial mining, led to the disruption of production by all permanent workers of different collieries of BCCL in Dhanbad for the third day on Saturday.
Production continued through the outsourced employees.
The trade unions include the Indian National Trade Union Congress (Intuc), All India Trade Union Congress (Aituc), Central Industrial Trade Union (Citu), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) and Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS),
Coal despatch also took place through railway wagons although road despatch was affected.
