Jamshedpur, April 27: A delegation of lawyers today met superintendent of police Sanjay Anand Lathkar demanding action against officer-in-charge of Parsudih police station, Rajesh Kumar Sinha.
Sinha had allegedly roughed up and misbehaved with a senior lawyer at Parsudih this morning.
According to the delegation members, while advocate R.C. Pandey was negotiating the congested Parsudih station road in the morning, a police jeep allegedly hit his car from behind.
The police officer continued to repeatedly hit the car from behind. When the lawyer protested, police officer Rajesh Sinha got down from the jeep and allegedly manhandled Pandey. When Pandey said he was a lawyer, the police officer got all the more angry. He allegedly whipped out his service revolver and threatened to shoot the lawyer.
Advocate R.C. Pandey said he recognised the Parsudih officer-in-charge and that he was sure he was Rajesh Kumar Sinha. The delegates threatened to launch an agitation if the guilty officer was not taken to task by the superintendent of police. Jamshedpur Bar Association president M.P. Banerjee said he is aware of the issue, but is yet to get a formal complaint from advocate Pandey.
He, however, expressed concern over the alleged misbehaviour of a responsible police officer.
Lathkar confirmed that they had got a complaint from a delegation of lawyers on alleged police atrocities against a senior lawyer, and promised to get the matter probed.
?A lawyers? delegation met me and briefed me about advocate Pandey?s harassment. I will get the complaint probed by a deputy superintendent of police and take necessary action if the allegation is true,? said Lathkar.
