Q: I have completed my BFT ( Bachelor in Foreign Trade) along with DOEACC ‘A’ level. Please suggest if I should pursue a master’s degree in foreign trade or DOEACC ‘B’ level?

Ananya Sen. Ranchi

A:With privatisation and liberalisation, foreign trade has received a boost in India There is a demand for talented and skilled professionals in this sector. Export companies are on the look out for qualified candidates with knowledge of international trade laws and commercial taxes. There is also a need for people, who can speak many languages. A master’s degree in foreign trade is a must if you want to land a plum job. There are, however, few institutes in this country which offer a master’s degree in foreign trade.

The DOEACC ‘B’ level course is technical in nature and is equivalent to the MCA. There are a large number of institutes offering this course and comparatively less opportunities for average candidates due to saturation of the job market. I suggest you to pursue a master’s degree in foreign trade. But if you think you have an aptitude in technology, then DOEACC ‘B’ level should be better bet. Remember you need to be technically outstanding in order to get good jobs after completing your DOEACC ‘B’ level.

Q: I am interested in pursuing a career in packaging technology. I have completed my graduation with Physics (Honours) from Ranchi University.

Yogesh Jha, Ranchi

A: In this age of advertising, packaging technology has evolved as a good career option. We cannot ignore the importance of packaging , while marketing a product. Quality packing makes the product attractive and also protects it from damage. Packaging is an essential ingredient of marketing products, including edible goods, electronic goods, cosmetics and toiletries, consumer durable and medicines. Even packaging material has evolved over the years from the traditional wood, paper, glass, plastic and cloth to PVC, thermocol and metal foil. Also with people becoming conscious about protecting the environment, biodegradable packaging material is being used. Packaging technology involves designing, development of adequate packaging methods so as to suit the product, evaluating the compatibility of the product with the packing, testing the quality and efficiency of the packaging system, creating environment-friendly packaging. Graduates in science subjects are eligible for admission to the two-year post graduate courses in packaging technology.
