Jamshedpur: Steel city kids will now have more fun things to keep them busy at the picturesque Jubilee Park.

Tata Steel's civic wing Jusco is undertaking a massive overhaul of the more than four-decade old Children's Corner, spread over half an acre inside the 500-acre park, at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore.

"We are targeting to complete the overhaul and renovation process by the middle of May to enable children spend some quality time during their summer vacation. We have rechristened it as "Fun Unlimited Children's Corner" and will introduce items such as multiple play stations, install new slides and swings, create an indoor aquarium besides beautifying the interiors. All these facilities can be enjoyed for free," Jusco spokesperson Rajesh Rajan said.

The multiple outdoor play station will be the first of its kind in any park in the city with tube, curved, wavy and spiral slides. Colourfully painted swings will add to the charm.

The indoor aquarium will provide information about different varieties of fish. An inflated human body model will enlighten kids about anatomy.

"All these facilities will be in addition to the existing swings (four) and slides (eight) that have received fresh coats of painting. We will also paint the walls with famous cartoon characters. We are laying granites, tiles and marbles indifferent parts of the children's corner to make it more appealing," Rajan said. The skating track, which had developed cracks, is being repaired, too.

The children's corner, which used to witness footfalls of over 600 daily, had been closed for repair for nearly a month. During the summer (April to September), kids are allowed into the area from 5-9 in the morning and 5-7 in the evening. In the winter (October to March), kids can keep themselves entertained from 6-10 in the morning and 3-6 in the evening.

"We are increasing the height of the boundary wall besides putting a barbed wire on the fence to prevent the entry of young couples after the facility is closed. We will also deploy proper security," a Jusco official said.
