Jamshedpur, Dec. 3: The Jamshedpur circle of Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) today disconnected power supply to the offices of two government units in the city.
JSEB officials said power supply to the Jugsalai Municipality and the Subernarekha Multi-purpose Project (SMP) was disconnected because of their failure to clear power dues.
“Both these departments have to clear dues of about Rs 4 crore, which has been pending for a long time,” JSEB superintending engineer C.D. Kumar said.
The JSEB authorities have also served notices on government departments, based in the district, to pay the dues within 15 days or face the same consequences like the SMP and the Jugsalai Municipality.
It was learnt that the local officials of SMP have send an SOS to their senior officials in Ranchi to provide them with adequate funds so that they could clear the dues at the earliest.
“We are in the process of issuing notices to some consumers who have not cleared their dues despite repeated requests. We would stop power supply to them if they fail to clear the dues,” Kumar added.
According to JSEB officials, Jharkhand High Court, in a recent directive, had stated that the board should not soft-peddle with defaulters, be it government or private.
“The court has clearly stated that the board must go all out to realise the dues from the defaulters. And it has also directed the board that it should comply with the directives of the court,” the JSEB superintending engineer said.
Sources in the JSEB said that it had received a communiqué from the headquarters that all efforts should be made to realise the dues from the defaulters so that the court’s order could be complied with. According to an estimate, government establishments have to clear dues of about Rs 10 crore.
