DBMS English School, Jamshedpur Public School (JPS), Tarapore Agrico School and St Mary's English School won their respective first round matches on the opening day of Jamshedpur Old Girls' and Guys' Association (Jogga) inter-school junior football tournament at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Monday.
As many as 30 schools are competing in the two-day tournament.
DBMS defeated RMS High School 1-0 through a goal by Md Farooque while JPS beat Beldih Church 2-0 thanks to a brace by Bikas Singh. Sumit Singh struck twice in Tarapore's 2-0 win over All India Women's Centre for Excellence even as St Mary's put it across Rajendra Vidyalaya 1-0 with Bhogan Mardi scoring a goal.
Other participating schools who posted wins included Andhra Association English School, DBMS High School (Kadma), Kerala Public School (Kadma) and Motilal Nehru Public School (MNPS).
Andhra Association's Fahim Ahmed struck twice to settle the issue against St Mary's Hindi School, while DBMS (Kadma) prevailed over Chinmaya Vidyalaya 2-0 via Adnan Sarwar's shooting skills.
KPS (Kadma) demolished St John's School 5-0 which included a brace by Shivam Kumar.
MNPS, on the other hand, beat Kerala Public School (NML) 3-0 with Gaurav Kumar finding the net on two occasions.
The tournament was inaugurated by Tata Steel sports wing head Ashish Kumar in the presence of Jogga president Srimanti Sen, vice-president Rajiv Seth and sports promoter Firoz Khan. A tournament for senior boys will start on Wednesday.
