Jamshedpur, Oct. 28: Call it placement boom for the 2011-batch of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Adityapur, with communication solutions company Aricent alone creaming off 40 students, the highest by any company since the recruitment process began.

Last year, Infosys hired 51 students to become the highest recruiter. It was followed by TCS, which picked 49.

Aricent, which offered an annual salary package of Rs 3.5 lakh, excluding perks and other emoluments, recruited 17 students from computer science, 13 from electrical engineering and 10 from MCA.

It was the 17th company that visited the campus since placement resumed on Tuesday after Puja vacation.

Earlier, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) had handpicked 12 students — six from electrical, five from mechanical and one from civil — offering the highest-ever salary of Rs 8.8 lakh per annum.

Larsen and Toubro followed next by recruiting eight students while ArcelorMittal and Tata Technologies picked seven students each, offering packages of Rs 4.75 lakh and Rs 3.25 lakh, respectively.

Two other Tata group companies, including Tata Steel and Tata Motors, selected five students each, offering annual pay of Rs 5.6 lakh and Rs 4.99 lakh, respectively.

Jusco, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Steel, also took part in the recruitment drive and selected three students for annual packages of Rs 5.76 lakh each.

Cummins India and Telcon, a subsidiary of Tata Motors Limited, recruited two students each, offering Rs 3.25 lakh and Rs 4.2 lakh per annum, respectively. Maruti Udyog Limited, which took part in the recruitment drive earlier this month, has offered Rs 5.5 lakh to six students.

Tata Steel will once again visit the campus next week to recruit more students. “The steel giant has evinced interest to take in more students. We have agreed,” said an official of NIT’s training and placement cell. He revealed that major software companies would come to the campus in November. The big names include Infosys, IBM and Cognizant.

About 60 companies will participate in the recruitment drive, which will continue till April next year.
