In a historic move, Jharkhand is all set to launch 80 district-level Schools of Excellence on 2nd May 2023, in the august presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

The inauguration of Thakur Vishwanath Shahdeo High School located in Dhurwa, Ranchi, is one of the 80 Schools of Excellence. All these 80 schools are affiliated with CBSE, where children will be taught in English medium.

These schools can be seen as an actualisation of dreams of such children to receive an education that will help them embark on the path of a better future.

It is for the first time that significant efforts are being undertaken to develop as well as enhance the quality of education of government schools at par with private schools of the state.

The state government has set a target of establishing 80 district-level Schools of Excellence, 325 block-level Leader schools and 4,091 gram panchayat level Model schools across the state and providing quality education opportunities to more than 15 lakh school children studying in government schools.

CM Soren conducted periodic reviews of the work of the Schools of Excellence

Ever since the formation of the present government, the Chief Minister has accorded utmost priority to the completion of the construction work of the model schools and to get them CBSE affiliation at the earliest.

As soon as the situation after the pandemic normalised, CM Soren gave strict directions to speed up the work of the district-level Schools of Excellence. Hemant Soren conducted fortnightly reviews of the construction of the schools, training of teachers, CBSE affiliation and a host of other steps undertaken for the fulfilment of this cornerstone effort in the education sector.

It is a fruition of these efforts that today all the 80 Schools of Excellence are ready to change the course of education in Jharkhand.

Trained Principals to guide the children

Online training of Principals of 80 Schools of Excellence has been given by the National Center for School Leadership in two phases.

Further, the training of Principals of 80 Schools of Excellence has also been completed in two phases by the Azim Premji Foundation. In the month of January, training was imparted by IIMs for the capacity building of principals.

All students in these 80 Schools of Excellence will be imparted vocational training for 11 said trades. These include Agriculture, IT, ITES, Apparel and Make-up and Home Furnishing, Media and Entertainment, Automotive, Tourism and Hospitality, Beauty and Wellness, Multi-skilling, Electronics and Hardware, Retail and Healthcare.

Arrangements are being made to facilitate on-job training through industrial field visits to state-level establishments and institutions associated with the respective trade so that employment opportunities can be made available to the students per their interests.
