Collection hike sparks protest
Ranchi: The state government?s decision to hike revenue collection by 15 per cent for the financial year 2005-2006 was met with protests by different departments on Monday.
While this year?s revenue collection target stands at Rs 3414.94 crore, the state government has said it has be increased to Rs 3926 crore in the next financial year.
The revenue department termed the decision unilateral. The department said the state?s drive for rapid economic and industrial development lacked vision and was unrealistic.
At a meeting of all revenue departments, which was chaired by chief secretary Laxmi Singh on Monday, the officials of the departments pointed out that they were finding it difficult to meet this year?s targets. The departments added that their performance depended on a number of extraneous factors, which should be taken into account before fixing unrealistic targets.
Entry tax poser to govt
Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court directed the state government to file a counter affidavit explaining why it had imposed entry tax on imported coal procured by the Tata Steel.
Tata Steel procures high quality coal from Australia and New Zealand for its plants in Jamshedpur. State commercial taxes commissioner Alka Tiwary had sought the advocate general?s advice on the imposition of entry tax on Tata Steel for procuring imported coal.
Advocate-general Anil Kumar Sinha had given a green signal in the matter after which the commissioner had decided to impose the entry tax on the steel major. Tata Steel filed a petition in high court challenging the decision of the commissioner.
Chairman for Aiada
Jamshedpur: Senior BJP leader of Seraikela-Kharsawan Vinod Srivastava took over as chairman of the Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority (Aiada).
The post has been lying vacant for nearly a decade. A few days ago, chief minister Arjun Munda gave his nod to the appointment of Srivastava as Aiada chairman.

Jamshedpur: The 32nd All-India Guards Council conference kicked off on Monday at Milanee Hall. As many as 700 guards and assistant guards from all the 16 railway zones attended the two-day conference.
Film festival
Jamshedpur: The two-day German film festival, scheduled to be organised by the Celluloid Chapter from October 4 at the Centre for Excellence, has been postponed to October 10 .
Drive
Jamshedpur: Twenty passengers were arrested at Tatanagar Railway station for travelling without tickets during a raid conducted by the Chakradharpur division. The passengers were released after they paid the ticket amount.
Inspection
Jamshedpur: A four-member team from the Bangalore-based National Assessment and Accreditation Council (Naac) visited Graduate School College for Women on Monday. The team will submit its inspection report on Tuesday.
Proposal
Ranchi: A meeting between the officials of Coal India Limited (CIL) and Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) will be held on October 6 in Calcutta. HEC will propose a work order to the tune of Rs 50 crores to the CIL management.
The chairman-cum-managing directors of both the companies are expected to attend the meet.
Rally
Ranchi: The Jharkhand chapter of All-India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) will stage a rally to protest against the problems in the education sector. Demonstrations will also be organised on Ranchi University campus.
Meeting
Ranchi: Jharkhand Readymade and Hosiery Clothes Dealers? Association will meet the state industry minister and secretary to discuss their problems. Association president Girish Malhotra will lead the delegation.
