Jamshedpur, Sept. 5: The state energy ministry has directed the Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited (TVNL) to survey the uranium-rich Jadugoda area of East Singhbhum to establish a nuclear power plant in the region.
The Centre had given its initial approval to the state government to proceed with the project and has also directed it to submit a detailed project report. State energy minister Lalchand Mahato said TVNL has been directed to speed up land identification for the project.
“We will appoint a nodal officer from TVNL within 10 days to prepare the project details. He will survey the land and inform the ministry of the possible project sites in Jadugoda,” Mahato said.
Energy ministry sources said it would be the responsibility of the nodal officer to get in touch with the Union power ministry and the department of atomic energy (DAE) to give a final shape to the project. “We will seek DAE’s help to prepare the project report,” a senior ministry official said.
