Jamshedpur, June 15: A three-member panel constituted by the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) inspected the indoor facility at the Keenan Stadium this morning.

The panel has been formed to expedite the completion of the indoor facility, which has been pending for almost two years.

The site inspection was conducted by former Test batsman Ramesh Saxena and former Bihar Ranji skipper K.V.P. Rao. The third member of the panel, Randhir Singh, could not be present due to “prior engagements”. A representative of the Tata Steel sports department was also present.

Saxena told The Telegraph: “We inspected the facility and found that there was no need to increase the height of the structure right now. If needed, it can be adjusted in future.”

He felt that early completion of the project is more important now as it would help to conduct practice sessions during monsoon.

“Since box nets are available we can do without increasing the height of the facility,” Saxena said, adding that they have submitted the site inspection report to the BCA for further action.

A former Bihar captain, Saxena added that that it was now up to the BCA management to decide when to start practice sessions at the indoor facility.

Sources, however, said the panel had earlier suggested to the BCA that the height of the indoor facility should be increased from the existing 12 ft to 18 ft. The BCA sent the report to the sports department, they added.

Sources further said the indoor facility project had been pending for almost two years as the BCA had failed to clear bills amounting to Rs two lakh to the contractor.

“Moreover, the cost of the project far exceeded BCA's estimation. It had not intended to spend so much on the facility. However, it proved to be quite expensive. This was also one of the reasons for the delay,” they added.
