Jamshedpur, March 25: A fine unbeaten knock by Deepak Kumar helped last year’s joint winner Tata Steel post a 134-run victory over Salem Steel Plant (SSP) in the All India Inter-Steel Plant Cricket Championship tie at Keenan Stadium today.
In the other matches, Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) defeated Alloy Steel Plant (ASP) by four wickets at Armoury grounds while Jindal Steel Plant (JSP) outclassed Bokaro Steel Plant (BSP) by 68 runs at Telco grounds.
Deepak, a former Ranji all-rounder player, scored 101 off 99 balls. The right hander hit seven boundaries, playing a vital role in Tata Steel’s total to 216 for seven in the stipulated 40 overs.
P. Subramani and Amit Singh picked three and two wickets, respectively, for Salem while D. Sundar Raj and G. Selvam claimed one wicket each.
The Salem team was dismissed for 82 in 28.5 overs with young left-arm spinner Junaid Ali claiming three for 13 runs in six overs. Barring a composed 26 runs by D. Sundar and 19 by P. Subramani, the other batsmen of Salem failed to come out with any substantial contribution.
In the other match, a controlled 60 from Trinath and a quick 52 by Apanna was all that VSP needed to post a win over ASP. Batting first, ASP had put on 170 runs before being all out in the 39th over. S. Sam was the most successful bowler for ASP, picking up three wickets for 27 runs in his quota of eight overs. S. Pathak scored 57 (4x6) and S. Mukherjee managed 21 (4x2).
Jindal batsmen Satyanarayan Yadav (78, 4x10, 6x1), Manohar Sharma (51, 4x9) and Satvir Singh (39, 4x4, 6x1) helped their team score 235 for nine. Mrityunjay Kumar and Aakash Kumar picked up three and two wickets, respectively, for the Bokaro outfit. BSP managed 167.
