Jamshedpur, Sept. 14: Tired of the maddening crowd and blaring loudspeakers of Durga Puja? If so, it’s time to pack your bags and set out for a trek in the Garhwal Himalayas.

Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) is organising a Himalayan trekking expedition from October 10 to 19.

The 10-day trek is open for school and college students as well as corporate groups.

“We are conducting this trekking programme for the first time. Keeping in mind Durga Puja holidays, we thought of presenting adventure buffs an opportunity to do something different and challenging,” TSAF secretary P.P. Kapadia told The Telegraph.

The foundation has zeroed in on the route from Kaflo base camp to 12000-ft-high Sayari Top. While participants will spend five days at the base camp to get acclimatised, the remaining days will be spent trekking to the top. During their stay at the base camp, participants will be trained in activities like rock climbing, rappelling, crossing rivers and making shelters.

“A team from Dhanbad-based Indian School of Mines is also taking part in the trek. We welcome students and people from the corporate sector to join the expedition. It is a programme exclusively meant for people with a knack for adventure,” Kapadia said.

The cost per head is Rs 8,500 which covers expenditure incurred in food and equipment.

“We will provide rucksacks, sleeping bags, mattresses, windproof jackets and tents. Highly experienced instructors will accompany the participants for guidance and safety,” Kapadia added. Participants will, however, need to fund their travel expenses, including train tickets.
