Jamshedpur, April 7: If you can accept the prick of needles to get rid of nagging pain, Ardeshir Dalal Memorial Hospital (ADMH) in Baridih is worth a visit.

The hospital on the city’s outskirts today launched an acupressure clinic, to be run by Sanjay Kumar, a noted Calcutta-based expert.

Kumar, who specialises in treating chronic cases of paralysis, ankylosing spondylitis, cervical spondylitis, mutism, Down’s syndrome, eye diseases, neuralgia and arthritis, will offer free acupressure treatment for the first one week.

Giving details of acupressure treatment, Kumar said the therapy originated six thousand years ago and has references in ayurveda, too.

“Acupressure is widely practised and more developed in countries like China, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, and the US. It was recognised by WHO in 1971 and in 1980. Acupressure was gradually noted worldwide as an alternative medicine,” Kumar said, adding that acupressure has especially beneficial for people suffering from chronic ailments.

He also answered queries from the people present at the inaugural and distributed acupressure treatment charts.

The clinic was inaugurated by social worker Jayshree Madhusudanan.

She emphasised on the need for individuals to be health conscious from an early age. “Generally, people become health conscious after they cross 40, which is not advisable because by then the ailments aggravate,” she said, narrating her experiences with acupressure as a sure remedy.

ADMH secretary Prabhat Verma said he zeroed in on Kumar after positive feedback from many people who had been treated by him. The acupressure clinic has been started with consent from the managing committee of ADMH.

Hospital in charge K. Kaushal presided over the event and extended the vote of thanks. Social workers Rubina Bodhanwala and Nutan Verma, Kanchan Singh were present.
