Jamshedpur, May 22: After a through interrogation of prime suspect Giridhari Singh, who was arrested in the wee hours of May 18 in the abduction of industrialist Ajay Singh, police suspect that there could be more than one gang involved in the crime.
Police suspect that this second gang was involved in the abduction of Ajay Singh from the National Highway 33 somewhere near Dimna Chowk on the afternoon of April 11 and later the gang handed over the industrialist to the Mokama-based don Lalan Singh of which Giridhari Singh is also a part.
East Singhbhum district superintendent of police, Sanjay Anand Lathkar said: ?The suspected abductor Giridhari Singh is yet to divulge his involvement in the Ajay Singh case. But nothing can conclusively be said about him unless the interrogation is over.?
Giridhari is on a four-day remand with the police since Saturday. Petitions have also been submitted by the police for taking two other suspects Tinku Tiwary and Sachidanand Singh, who were arrested from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, on remand. The petition will be heard tomorrow.
Stressing that identifying the gang responsible for the industrialist?s abduction was the prime object, the superintendent of police said the joint interrogation of the criminals from Mokama of Bihar and Gorakhpur of Uttar Pradesh would definitely help unfolding the scene.
Ajay Singh is the owner of Femico Industries, a Tata Motors ancillary located at suburban Rahargora under Parsudih police station of the East Singhbhum district. The industrialist, who has proximity with chief minister Arjun Munda, returned home after spending 37 days as hostage by a criminal gang at an undisclosed destination in Bihar.
His family sources hinted that a hefty amount was paid as ransom for the release. On the other hand, the police remained tight-lipped on the payment of ransom.
According to sources, whichever gang is responsible behind Ajay Singh?s abduction, the gang worked in a syndicate, with its base spread across Bihar and the control room in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
When a person is kidnapped the base gang sends him to an unknown location and the other gang demands ransom, the sources added about their modus operandi.
