Jamshedpur, March 26: The new hairstyle is proving to be lucky for Indian wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Though critics and fashion gurus have labelled his recent step as a fashion harakiri, it has definitely brought in loads of luck in the form of film and advertisement offers.
While the ace cricketer has agreed to dabble in ads, it?s a no from him to film offers.
Dhoni has received an offer for a guest appearance in a South Indian film but has turned it down politely saying that he wished to concentrate on the game.
If plans fall in place, the pin-up boy of Indian cricket would soon sign a contract with a leading after-wash haircare product company.
?Talks are on with a leading multinational, but the name of the company cannot be made public, unless every detail gets finalised,? said Malavika Banerjee, director of Gameplan Sports Private limited, the Calcutta-based company managing Mahendra Singh Dhoni?s career.
The company, however, also has the exclusive rights for media sponsorships for former stars such as Vivian Richards, Bob Woolmer, Imran Khan and Geoffrey Boycott.
?It was on the suggestion of a fashion stylist from Mumbai that Dhoni coloured his hair black. Though people were apprehensive about the success of the look, it?s getting accepted,? Banerjee said.
But it?s not only the ad world which is going all gaga over this blue-eyed boy of Indian cricket. Apparently, very recently, Dhoni also received an offer for a guest appearance in a movie from down south.
?Yes, there was a film offer, but we are not considering it as the cricketer should concentrate on his game,? Banerjee said. However, the loss of the South Indian film industry has surely brought in loads in good news for the advertisement giants, who have managed to rope in Dhoni as a brand ambassador for their products.
After being declared the brand ambassador for Reliance Communication Venture and Reliance Energy limited, Dhoni would soon be seen in a television commercial for TVS motorcycles. ?The shooting and post production is complete and the commercial would soon be on air,? said Banerjee.
The commercial would, however, be the second television commercial for the cricketer after the current Orient Fans advertisement. Reportedly, Dhoni has signed an exclusive contract of two years with each of the companies.
And if sports accessories and FMCG product companies are trying their best to rope in the cricketer, the electronics sectors, too, are not lagging behind. ?He has already signed a deal with Videocon, but whether the company would use him for print ads or television promotions, is something that?s yet to be decided,? said Banerjee. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan is its present ambassador.
Private companies are not the only ones willing to cash in on his unprecedented success, as a government undertaking like Bharat Petroleum, too, has signed him. So any plans for a further makeover? ?The present style would continue for now,? said Banerjee.
After all, no one is complaining about the new image.
