Giridih, July 27: When in Class VI, she told her school principal that she would grow up to become an actress. Nine years later, the Giridih girl is living her dream.

Sheena Shahabadi has bagged a role in Satish Kaushik’s flick Teree Sang. The film, being touted as a kidult love story, revolves around the sensitive issue of teen pregnancy. After Tanushree Dutta, Sheena will be the second girl from the state who will live her Bolly dreams. The film is scheduled to release on August 7, while its music has already hit the stores.

The 20-year-old will star opposite Ruslaan Mumtaj, who had made his debut in Mera Pehla Pehla Pyar (MP3) and the son of Anjana Mumtaj. While Satish Kaushik will be calling the shots and the movie will be produced by Bharat Shah and Kaushik himself. Sheena will get to brush her shoulders with eminent actors — Rajat Kapoor, Neena Gupta and Kaushik.

It was but a natural choice for Sheena, the daughter of Rajkumar and Sadhna Shahabadi, to take to films as her grandfather had made Bhojpuri movie Ganga Dhaam and her mother had acted in Nadia Ke Paar.

Though she harboured a dream of becoming an actress from her childhood, her parents came to know about it only in Class VI. “One day her principal called us and said Sheena wants to make a career out of acting. She requested us to let her follow her dreams and we never came in the way. Since then she had taken part in a lot of school plays. But this was a big break for her,” said Sadhna over phone from Mumbai.

In 2007, Kaushik chanced upon Sheena and found her suiting the script. Then some calls and meetings later, Sheena was signed in for the role.

“It is a very challenging role and getting such a character in the first film makes it all the more difficult. But as I have always thought of becoming an actress I took to the role easily. I could easily slipped into the character,” said the young actress.

She is not an actress only with talent, but has an acting course to boast. Sheena has completed a three-month certificate course from Creating Characters Institute, Mumbai and had trained in dancing from ace choreographers Shiamak Davar and Ganesh Acharya.

“I have always admired Madhuri Dixit and Kajol and will love to do character based roles like the ones done by Rani Mukherjee in Black and Nutan in Bandini. Those roles inspire me a lot but I am open to Bollywood masala flicks also. I want to act in films opposite Aamir Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor,” said Sheena.

The fresh face is also doing a Telegu movie opposite Manoj, the son of Mohan Babu.
