Get set for the coolest carnival

An array of sports events, cultural activities and fun games will keep the steel city in high spirits till the end of March next year, with the organisers of Winter Fest 2017 planning to draw both domestic and international tourists with comprehensive adventure packages.

Jamshedpur: An array of sports events, cultural activities and fun games will keep the steel city in high spirits till the end of March next year, with the organisers of Winter Fest 2017 planning to draw both domestic and international tourists with comprehensive adventure packages.

Renamed from Jamshedpur Carnival of 2013, the winter festival will begin this Sunday with Tata Steel, its subsidiary Jusco and Jamshedpur Hoteliers' Association hoping to launch a dedicated website by the middle of the month. Adventure activities such as trekking and rafting in Dalma and Dimna will be supervised by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation.

"This year, we are striving to make the steel city a winter destination for overseas tourists. All information related to cultural events and adventure packages will be uploaded on the website and also published in noted travel magazines," Kulvin Suri, chief of corporate affairs at Tata Steel, told reporters here on Friday.

The fest will begin with the traditional Run-a-thon from JRD Tata Sports Complex on November 5 and will be followed by a mushaira at Dhatkidih community centre on November 9.

Men's lawn tennis tournament will be held simultaneously at Beldih Club and United Club between November 10 and 17 while a celebrity golf tourney will be played at Beldih and Golmuri courses on November 10.

Jam@Streets along Bistupur Main Road on November 12 will offer a series of events such as roller skating, badminton, basketball, yoga, cycling and aerobics, besides rock music.

Samvaad, a tribal conclave, will be held between November 15 and 18 at Gopal Maidan while acclaimed dancer Astad Daboo will enthral the audience on Loyola School campus on November 17.

World Disability Day will be observed at Sir Dorabji Tata Park on December 3 while the annual coin exhibition will attract numismatists between December 8 and 10 at Red Cross Society in Sakchi.

The annual feature, Tata Open Golf, shall witness top-notch professionals of India in action at Golmuri course between December 13 and 17. The 3km carnival parade, complete with Latin bands, vintage cars and army displays, is scheduled for December 18.

A master chef competition will be organised by Jamshedpur Hoteliers' Association during the mega food festival at Gopal Maidan between December 18 and 21 while Jamshedpur Horticultural Society will host its annual flower show between December 23 and 27 at Gopal Maidan.

The annual dog show is slated between January 5 and 7 at JRD Tata Sports Complex.
