Budding pugilists from Jamshedpur will try to blaze the rings at the Rs 40,000 prize money Inter-centre Sub-junior Boxing Championship for boys and girls to be held on Saturday and Sunday.

Jharkhand Boxing Association is conducting a prize money event for the first time. The two-day meet will be staged in Sitaramdera. The prize money is an incentive for young boxers who will enter the ring with a pepped-up confidence.

A total of 36 boys and 19 girls will take part in the event, which comprises cadets from Tata Boxing Centre, Mango Boxing Centre, Kasturba Gandhi Boxing Centre, Birsa Boxing Centre and Namda Boxing Centre, said JBA secretary Uttam Singh.

The Birsa cradle is run by champion pugilist Aruna Mishra who on Monday claimed gold in the 65th All India Police Games in Patna.

Jamshedpur is the hub of boxing in Jharkhand. The training centres boast promising pugilists, some of whom have represented in statelevel championships.

"The upcoming tournament will surely add zing to the boxing activities in the city. Prize money will act as a tonic for the participants who are expected to come up with their best punches," said an official of the state outfit.
