Jamshedpur, Sept. 19: Regular visits to the salon, hours before the mirror and religious application of moisturiser to improve skin have not helped much?

Jamshedpur branch of Flying Cats, an air hostess training institute, organised a free grooming session for students to get that perfect look without paying a penny. At the grooming session that was conducted by Sushma of Jovees, a herbal cosmetic brand, students were told of different skin types and how to maintain the pH balance that is the key to glowing skin.

“We started this grooming session on an experimental basis. We began with our students, but would soon organise similar sessions for other women. Jovees is a herbal brand that does not use harsh chemicals and we want more people to know the importance of such herbal products that do affect skin,” said Poonam Kaur, a senior counsellor at the Flying Cats, Jamshedpur.

Thirty students attended the beautician course.

The session also involved home-made treatments for all types of skin. For those with oily skin, Sushma asked students to apply cucumber paste, while students with dry skin was asked to drink a lot of water. The age-old tip of drinking eight to nine glasses of water for clear skin was stressed upon, while students were also asked to stay away from greasy and fried foods.

Lemon was recommended as a natural cleanser for all skin types, especially to combat the modern day pollution problem.

“Make up and beauty are two intrinsic aspects of a air hostess’s life, as they have to look presentable always. But regular application of cosmetics also harms the skin. By applying natural remedies the damage can be controlled a little,” Kaur said.

“Appearance matters a lot during campus interviews and a clear skin goes a long way in enhancing the way a woman looks or feels about herself. Skin care is important and if students need suggestion, then we would like to help them,” Kaur added.

Students were also told of Jovees’s products that help protect the skin from ultraviolet rays, wrinkles, pollution and dirt.

“The session was fun both for the students and for us. They came up with their problems and we were more than happy to help them out,” said R.K. Singh, the sales officer of Jovees.

“It (the session) was very informative. The session has helped me to understand my skin better. Just like my body, I have to take care of my skin. The beauty expert told me to mix malai, turmeric and sandalwood and apply it for seven to eight days to get a lighter skin,” said Shweta, a student.

Next on line, is a session for non-students. The institution is expected to finalise the date of those grooming sessions soon. This time, the academy has planned to tie up with Keune, a hair product company of Europe, to help out city residents to tackle dilemmas.
