Ranchi, Jan. 16: In a crackdown on foreign nationals illegally staying in the state, the home department has slapped deportation orders on two people holding Afghan and Bangladeshi passports who had overstayed beyond their valid visa permits.
The Bangladeshi was staying illegally for the past 30 years.
The police apprehended the Afghan national while he was roaming around the state secretariat at Project Bhavan.
Home secretary J.B. Tubid said an examination of his papers revealed that the “foreigner” had overstayed for nearly a month without obtaining necessary permission.
Refusing to divulge his identity, Tubid said though the Afghan pleaded for an extension of his visa permit, after being caught, his appeals were rejected since he had initially failed to approach the home department in due time.
“The Afghan national was handed over to the police with instructions to put him on the first plane to Afghanistan,” the home secretary said.
In yet another case, a Bangladeshi national was slapped with deportation orders after he too was caught overstaying in the country for the past 30 years.
Officials said the Bangladeshi had initially entered the country on a visitor visa in the early seventies.
Later he had found his way to the steel city of Bokaro where he had set up his own business, officials said.
“The Afghan national, by virtue of his distinct physique, had come to the notice of the department,” said an official.
“However, in the case of the Bangladeshi, he had successfully evaded being detected for the past three decades since he resembled any other Indian national,” he added.
