Jamshedpur: Kolhan University has formed a three-member committee to revise the fee of examiners, evaluators and question paper setters.

The committee will be led by pro vice chancellor Ranjit Kumar Singh. Secretary of Teachers Association of Kolhan University (TAKU) Rajendra Bharti and deputy registrar Murari Kumar Mishra will be the other members. The panel would propose the revised rates at the next finance committee meeting scheduled later this month for clearance.

University officials said the expenses were last revised in 2009 and it was time to give it a hike. Faculty members from other universities also suggested the same.

"A number of issues have to be decided. These include fixing new rates for evaluation of answer sheets for undergraduate and postgraduate examinations, fees for setting question papers and payment and allowances for external examiners. There had been a long-standing demand to revise the rates and we have decided to implement it," said university's examination controller P.K. Pani.

Before finalising the new rates, the committee would study the fees offered by different universities in Jharkhand. After proper compilation and incorporating suggested chan-ges, the panel would propose it to the finance committee which in turn is expected to approve it.

"The rates are very old and need to be revised. The teachers' association had been demanding it for a long time. Some external examiners have also complained about the current rates. Usually, low rates doesn't motivate examiners and evaluators to render their services. Moreover, the university has implemented the semester and CBCS (choice-based credit system) to upgrade higher education quality," said a teacher who's also a member of TAKU.

Varsity officials said they would try to implement the revised rates as soon as possible because Part-III examinations begin this month followed by Part-II examinations in a couple of months.
