Over 100 students from Cambridge Institute of Technology in Tatisilwai, Ranchi, gheraoed Ranchi University vice chancellor L.N. Bhagat for over four hours on Tuesday, demanding retests.

They disgruntled lot had failed to qualify both their first and second semester examinations. Varsity records showed that around 33 per cent of 300-odd first-year students had flunked.

“Unless we clear these papers, we will not able to take our third semester examination,” first-year student Umesh Kumar said, defending their protest.

He added that many students of the previous batch had failed in the first two semesters and could get through to the next level only if the institute held a supplementary test. “But this year, RU is rejecting our demand,” he said.

Umesh’s batch-mate Rajesh Kumar Sinha said, “Our career will be at stake, if the varsity does not give us another chance.”

RU’s pro-vice chancellor N. Raziuddin said, “The matter has been referred to the varsity’s examination board. Everything will be clear by the next week.
