Ranchi: Oct. 19: The festive cheer has started spreading vigorously around the state capital. To celebrate the festival of lights and Id, schools have started organising competitions.

Dressed to kill

The tiny tots of Gurunanak Higher Secondary School celebrated the Diwali cheer by taking part in a fancy dress competition today.

The event was organised with focus on Id as well as characters from Ramayana, presenting a perfect picture of secularism.

The children danced to the tunes of Dekho aye aye Id Mubarak aye at the event.

Principal of Gurunanak Higher Secondary School C. Terence said such programmes should be conducted regularly to bring out the creative potential and talents of students.

Colour mania

Another event organised here today to celebrate the festival of lights was the inter-house rangoli competition at Sachidanand Gyan Bharti Model School.

Students created rangoli under various themes at the competition. Conservation of wildlife, symbols of peace and the childhood of Hanuman were some of the concepts on which the students made the designs. Clay, rice and flowers were used to create the patterns.

In the junior category, the Sama Veda house bagged the first prize while the Atharva Veda house bagged the first slot in the senior category.

Merriment

A song and dance competition was organised at the Nirja Sahay DAV Public School in Kanke today. However, this event was not a part of the festival fever but was organised as a part of the inter-regional youth festival.

During the programme, around 460 students from 15 DAV schools came forward to showcase their talents. The cultural programmes started off with chanting of Vedas, which was followed by group folk dances, solo classical dances and group National Song recital among others.

Principals of various DAV schools were also present on the occasion.
