Ranchi: The Chatra district administration on Thursday sealed Om Nursing Home where a newborn boy's genitals were allegedly mutilated, leading to his death, two days ago.

Proprietor Anuj Kumar of the private health facility in Itkhori, 130km from here, is absconding since an FIR was lodged against him on Wednesday and suspicions were raised about his licence to practise as a doctor.

Three more clinics - two in Itkhori Chatti and a third in Gulhipara - have also been sealed amid speculation that they too were being run by "unqualified" persons.

Medical officer of the community health centre Dr D.N. Thakur said they suspected the three other clinics were owned by one Dr Arun Kumar. It is not clear if the two "doctors" are related. "We are busy documenting evidence against them," Thakur said.

The medical officer added that they would submit an application for a formal case under Pre-conception & Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act and Clinical Establishment Act.

Dr Anuj is accused of surgically removing the genitals of the baby boy allegedly to prove right his prediction of a girl child before he conducted a C-section on the mother, Guriya Devi, on Tuesday.

Chatra civil surgeon S.P. Singh and Itkhori OC Ashok Ram remained incommunicado. Hence, the outcome of the autopsy could not be ascertained by this newspaper.
