Far away from the IPL hype, an inter-school cricket tourney in Dhanbad threw up a star that symbolises the true spirit of cricket, grit with grace.

DPS Dhanbad will meet DAV Centenary Public School Baniahir in the final of the tourney being hosted by DPS Interact Club at CIMFR grounds on Tuesday, three days of league matches ending Monday.

Nishtha Kumari of DPS, who won the Woman of the Match award as an all-rounder, has only one hand. The girl did not let her genetic problem hinder her love for the game. Her team defeated Yashomati Sri Vidya Niketan of Jharia by five wickets. DPS won the toss and elected to field as Yashomati girls notched up 70 runs in the allotted 15 overs, the highlight being Simran Kaur's unbeaten 21. DPS scored 71 runs in 11.5 overs to win by five wickets. DPS Ayesha Ali scored seven runs and Nishtha scored five, no balls and wides adding most runs.

In the other two matches, Deo Public School defeated DAV Public School Koylanagar by 7 wickets and Yashomati girls beat DAV Model Public School, CFRI, by 4 wickets.

Deo student Supriya Saloni knocked 55 runs with 9 boundaries, the highest individual score, and became the Woman of the Match. Yashomati girl Aditi Kumari with 22 runs became Woman of the Match against DAV Model Public School.
