A social organisation in Ranchi started addressing a hitherto unattended gap in the fight against novel coronavirus from Wednesday.

The organisation, Zindagi Milegi Dobara (ZMD), took up the job of disinfecting what its members call “corona warriors’ vehicles” for free.

ZMD tied up with Rajgarhia Ventures, a private company engaged in disinfecting offices, apartments and other premises, to start the job in front of Panchwati Plaza on Harmu Road.

“Vehicles directly or indirectly involved in the fight against the novel coronavirus such as ambulances, police patrol cars, vehicles used by the administration and those for mediapersons, medical crew and civic body workers and officials, will be disinfected here for free,” ZMD founder-president Aswini Rajgarhia said. While ambulances carry Covid-19 patients and suspects, police patrol cars and those used by the administration and media visit hospitals and affected areas, he said, adding that many such vehicles may have picked up the virus.

He said many people had a bad habit of spitting, exposing vehicles to the possibility of picking up the virus. “We will disinfect such vehicles from 10am to 6pm everyday at the same spot,” Rajgarhia said.

Ambulances, police patrol vans and two-wheelers disfected got a green sticker that read: “This vehicle is sanitised by disinfectant fogging on April 15.”
