Jamshedpur, June 2: In a bid to raise the standard of cadets, a Korean coach has advised the Tata Archery Academy (TAA) to install video cameras to record training sessions and matches.

Chae Woong Lim, the Korean coach, has made the suggestion with an eye on the Athens Olympics and other international meets.

Lim, who has been visiting the academy for the past three years, feels that even the slightest variation in the body position of an archer may result in missing the target by a considerable margin.

Lim has represented Korea for about 15 years in various international events and has also won a gold medal at the Asian Games.

“Archery is a game of individuals and therefore the cadets’ technique has to be developed on a one-to-one basis,” said Lim, adding that once the recording facility was available at the academy, it would be possible to keep an eye on even those movements, which go unnoticed now.

The footage will be shown to every cadet in the presence of the coach who will point out the problems with their body movements and make suggestions to rectify the same, Lim said.

Lim, during his past two stints at the academy, could not teach the cadets how to overcome arrow drifts as there was little air movement.

“Fortunately, there was some movement in the air (this time), which drifted the arrow and the cadets got the opportunity to get some practical training in this regard. I hope that after this none of the cadets will face any difficulty even if there is some movement in the air,” he revealed.

Speaking on the preparations of Indian archers for the the Athens Olympics and the second Asian Grand Prix at Kuala Lumpur,Lim said he was in touch with the squad for the Grand Prix meet and hoped that it could win a medal.

“However, based on my experience with the probable members of the Olympics squad during my stint as coach of the Indian team, I feel they have a good chance to win a medal at Athens,” he added.
