Jamshedpur, July 4: Private flight operator Air Deccan has yet again deferred its proposed flight service between Jamshedpur and Calcutta.
Sources in Air Deccan said the flight service between the steel city and Bengal capital was scheduled to start from July 15.
But it has been deferred further in the want of necessary clearances from Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Airport Authority of India (AAI). The Bangalore-based airlines company is now hopeful of operating the flight sometime in September.
?We are hopeful of getting the flight clearances by the end of this month. Soon after getting the nod, the fair structure and the schedule of the flights connecting the two cities would be worked out,? said John Kuruvilla, a senior official of Air Deccan.
According to Kuruvilla, the private airline company has procured a new aircraft. It will be introduced once the flight service begins between Jamshedpur and Calcutta, he added.
Notably, Mithila Motors, a reputed business house of the city, has already leased out its hangar to Air Deccan at the Sonari airport.
Among other things, the airlines company has initiated the process of constructing ticket counters and a waiting hall for passengers and installing machine for scanning the luggage of passengers. The renovation of the hangar began last month.
Tata Steel, which owns the airport, is presently overseeing the renovation work at the hangar. The strategy department of the steel company has been entrusted with the work of overseeing the renovation work.
Being an industrial town and housing a host of institutes of repute, Jamshedpur holds a good prospect of airlines business.
Officials of Air Deccan revealed that they had plans to introduce a 48-seater aircraft.
Tata Steel has assured the private airline company of a block booking of 20 seats for initial six months.
