Jamshedpur, July 7: Yasha Kumar, a key witness and informant in the Anchal Kumar murder case, was cross-examined by the defence in the court of first additional district judge L.K. Sharma today.
During the cross-examination, which was recorded on camera, Yasha was quizzed to verify facts mentioned in the FIR.
According to sources in the prosecution, the cross-examination began at 12 noon and continued till 1.30pm. The session was resumed at 3pm and continued till 4.30pm.
Daughter of murder victim Anchal Kumar, and a rape victim, Yasha Kumar faced questions from the defence lawyer pertaining to her relationship with main accused in the case Rameez Raja.
Yasha had, in an FIR lodged with the Kadma police station in 2007, alleged that Raja strangled her father to death in front of her and her mother, Anita.
She said Raja had arrived with his younger brother Prince to their house in Vijay Heritage when Anchal was away in Delhi. Raja allegedly raped Yasha the previous night at her home.
When her father returned home post-midnight, the brothers tied her and her mother and dragged them to another room.
After the brothers left in the morning, their maidservant was the first to knock on their door and then alert the neighbours when no one answered.
Prince, who was remanded to juvenile court after his arrest in connection with the case, is presently on bail.
He has passed his matric examination. At present Raja, a Loyola School dropout, is facing trial. Prince would be tried later on. Yasha was a Plus Two student of Sacred Heart Convent when the murder occurred.
According to sources, the case has a total of 19 prosecution witnesses, 12 of whom, including Yasha Kumar, have already deposed.
