Patna, May 24: A terror in Gandak riverine (West Champaran) and fugitive for over 40 years, Vasudev Yadav (70), today surrendered before Bagha police “to join mainstream society and get involved in development”. Three of his accomplices also surrendered.
Vasudev’s head carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh from the Bihar government and Rs 25,000 from the UP government. He had over 100 cases of murder, dacoity, extortion and kidnapping against his.
This is the second big surrender of a dreaded bandit from Gandak belt in over a fortnight. On May 8, the notorious Bhagar Yadav had surrendered amid “mass support” and fanfare that resembled a political jamboree.
Over 2,000 people were present at Bagha police headquarters, about 250km from here, to witness Vasudev’s surrender.
The dacoit handed over his 0.315 regular rifle with a full cartridge belt to Bagha superintendent of police Vikas Vaibhav. His three accomplices — Rajesh Singh, Ramakant Yadav and Ghanshyam Ram — also surrendered with a double-barrelled gun, a single-barrel gun, a rifle, a locally made rifle with 54 live cartridges.
An emotional Vasudev said that he took to arms because of a Dhanha landlord.
