Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS) is an institution that believes that students come first. Therefore, there are several decisions that are left to them.
After the initial hiccups, the school got its share of recognition after putting in a lot of hard work and now it is one of the most sought after institutions. Students here are not treated as mere reservoirs for receiving knowledge, but are imparted quality education by a set of 113 teachers, including 10 part-timers. The office work is coordinated by 12 people who efficiently manage the daily affairs. KSMS is reputed for believing in holistic education.

Perfect practice
Be it the intra-school youth festival held annually in the school in December or organising inter-school activities, the school believes in keeping its promises to the students.
Right from the activity class in the morning to remedial and achievement classes during the day, extra emphasis is laid on developing the potential of children to the extent possible.
?Our satisfaction lies in the fact that students actually want to come to school everyday,? said principal Nandini Shukla.
Innovations
The laudable effort of the school lies in its adoption of a unique concept for students of Class VII and above, for sitting for examinations in the absence of an examiner.
?Students are free to opt for the kind of examination that they want to sit for. It completely depends on them, if they wish to answer the examination either in the presence or absence of the examiner. We trust them with their decisions? added principal Shukla.
Hobby classes
This institution encourages all student to take part in some co-curricular activity and makes it mandatory for all to participate in the school events.
There are 24 hobby classes in the school, where students meet during school hours to decide its events. Besides an English and Hindi debate and dramatics club, there are a number of clubs to encourage students interested in various forms of music and instruments.
There is encouragement for all those with an aptitude to join the vocational training courses. Aspiring dancers can learn the nuances better under the tutelage of experts in the various dance forms. There is scope for potential readers and all those interested in playing an active role in preserving nature by being a member of the Eco club.
Examinations
Tests are held thrice in an academic year with a round of tests every week on each of the subjects. The school believes in providing equal opportunities to all and propagates the importance of continuous assessment for the junior classes.
Admission
Admission is fairly simple. At the kindergarten level, children just have to qualify in the oral test along with a meeting with the parents to ensure that they are willing to be an active part of the school. At the Plus Two level, students are not taken in from other schools. The school students graduate to the Plus Two section based on their performance in the previous classes. The school decides streams for the students strictly based on their performance.
Awards
There are plenty to motivate students. The Principal?s Award is given to the student who contributes significantly for the betterment of the school. Gold medals are given in recognition to students who score above 90 per cent in any subject at the Board examinations.
Besides there are three parent-teacher meetings in an academic year, because the school encourages a healthy interaction between parents, students and teachers on all working days. Thirty-eight quality circles operate in the school and the results are all evident.
