Ranchi, May 24: Congress general secretary Mohan Prakash arrived in Ranchi today to take stock of the party's ongoing campaigns to punch holes in the BJP's claims of big achievements during the first year in office at the Centre.
Prakash, who reviewed the Gaon Gaon, Paon Paon drive launched in Jharkhand on May 21, continued Congress's onslaught on the NDA government, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misleading people in the name of achche din.
"Our Gaon Gaon, Paon Paon has evoked good response in Jharkhand. Our campaigns to create awareness about various policies among the masses and expose the pro-industrial agenda of the BJP government have been successful in other states too. It suggests that the common people are already fed up with the Modi government," he stressed at a news conference in Ranchi.
Prakash added that the erstwhile UPA government had enacted several laws like MGNREGA, RTI Act and amended the land acquisition law to safeguard the interests of common people. But, the Modi government has been diluting the provisions of these laws for the convenience of industrial giants, he alleged.
The senior Congress leader also said several key posts like the chief information commissioner and the chief vigilance commissioner had been lying vacant for long. Five nationalised banks - Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Syndicate Bank, Andhra Bank and Canara Bank - are running without heads.
"These appointments are deliberately being delayed. The chief vigilance commissioner looks after important corruption cases involving persons holding key positions. The chief information commissioner ensures that people get necessary information on time. Private sector banks are minting money in the Modi rule because the nationalised banks are headless," he said.
Prakash also criticised the BJP government for rising fuel prices, which had added to the woes of common people reeling under several problems.
"Had the Modi government followed the UPA's formula, the fuel prices would not have gone up so much," he argued.
