Deputy commissioner Anjaneyulu Dodde has sent two separate proposals to HRD department secretary Aradhna Patnaik and higher and technical education department secretary Ajay Kumar Singh to shift Raja Shiva Prasad College, better known as RSP College Jharia, and its Plus Two classes from Bhagatdih area following subsidence threat because of the raging underground fire.
The development picked up pace after a father-son duo had slipped to their deaths in a subsidence crater at Surratand on May 24.
"We have sent the proposal for shifting the college and the school to the secretaries of the respective department," Dodde said on Wednesday.
According to the proposal, RSP College will be temporarily shifted to Jealgora Regional Hospital till a new building comes up in Jamadoba. The Plus Two classes will be held at a half-constructed hospital building of the state government at Baniahir lying unused some 3km from the existing RSP College building.
The water tank of Mineral Area Development Authority, which is located adjacent to the college and school, will also be shifted to a new place near Dhansar.
A recee of the alternative sites was also conducted in 2015 during which a team including the then rehabilitation and resettlement-in-charge of Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority, Gopal Ji visited a plot near Kamdhenu petrol pump, a vacant land of coal board near Kumar Talkies in Dhansar and a BCCL land in ropeway division near Patherdih.
The BCCL land was found too small and the idea of shifting to Dhansar was dumped as both the sites fell within the Dhanbad circle while the shift had to take place within Jharia.
