NCC launches anti-polio drive
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial College (LBSM) recently launched an awareness drive on pulse polio. The rally started from Bhudrudih village and covered tribal-dominated areas of Ekladih, Kaliyadih, Gaghidih, Kinudih and concluded at the college campus.
R.K. Choudhary, National Cadet Corps officer of Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial College, expressed satisfaction over the success of the rally. He said the cadets created awareness about polio among the tribals and advised them to participate in immunisation drives
The National Cadets Corps members, including Anand Manjhi, Sunil Hembram, Krishna Mohan Soren, Raghuvir Singh, Lakhan Dongo, Sukhmati Murmu, Anita Kumari, Pramod Kumar, Amit Kumar Das, Tapan Patro, played an all important role to make this awareness drive a successful one.
Successful inspection
Officials of Jamshedpur Women?s College (JWC) are gearing up to celebrate the B++ grade the college received from the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC). When the college reopens after Puja holidays, the college will organise a function on its campus. ?It is a great achievement and we want to celebrate it with our students and faculty members. We are planning to organise a grand function to thank every stockholder of the college for their support during the inspection,? said principal Shukla Mohanty.
The principal informed that the vice-chancellor of Ranchi University S.S. Kushwaha has also written a letter congratulating the college for receiving the commendable grade.
Literacy camp
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Abdul Bari Memorial College observed Chlidren?s Day by conducting a literacy drive in Bajrangnagar area of Jamshedpur. In a function organised by the NSS, sweets and gifts were distributed among underprivileged children. Surendra Nath Mohanty, programme officer of NSS, said though the activists have been carrying out such drives, celebrating Children's Day in such a manner was a memorable experience.
NSS activists Mukesh Kumar, Anil Kumar, Lakshmi Kumari, Champa Kumari, Parvati Kumari, Gauri Kumari and Poonam Kumari played a vital role for the success of the drive.
Placement season
After the two-week puja vacation, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) has started with its second phase of campus recruitment on a positive note. The last few months have been booming with companies like Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Mahindra British Telecom, Crompton Greaves and among others picking up students. So far, about 150 students, in a batch of 220, have been placed in different companies.
According to NIT officials, various companies like Samtel and Scooter India will also visit the campus. ?We are happy with the enthusiasm of the companies. We are hoping that a handful of telecom and information technology companies will visit our campus,? said an official.
Varsity reopens
Ranchi University reopened on Tuesday after Puja holidays. For students of the department of journalism and mass communication, the university opened with their examination. ?We had plenty of time to prepare, but one hardly bothers to study during vacations. We started serious preparations only when a week was left for the examination,? said a student For other students, things have only started picking up. ?The university has opened after a month. We are gearing up now and serious study will start only next week,? said a student.

Ranchi University will interview candidates aspiring for positions in the B.Ed. faculty in ten colleges on November 27. According to varsity spokersperson S.S. Akhtar, the interview will start at 10 am and candidates, who have not received the call letters, could also attend. ?They are required to bring supporting documents so that their identities as applicants could be established,? he said.
On June 21, the state government had given no-objection certificates to Tata College (Chaibasa), St Xavier's College (Ranchi), Jawahar Lal Nehru College (Chakradharpur), Graduate School College for Women College (Jamshedpur), Jamshedpur Women?s College (Jamshedpur), Ranchi Women?s College (Ranchi), K.O. College (Gumla), Ranchi College (Ranchi), Women?s College (Chaibasa), Bahragora College (Bahragora) and Cooperative College (Jamshedpur) to start B.Ed course.
