Collectors line up rare coin show

Jamshedpur, Dec. 12: In an attempt to cultivate coin collection as a hobby, Coin Collectors? Club, Jamshedpur, will organise seminars and sessions during the annual coin exhibition to be held from December 19.

The four-day 10th national level exhibition, Jamcoin-2004, will be held at Tulsi Bhavan. Deputy commissioner Sunil Kumar Burnwal will inaugurate the exhibition and deputy managing director of Tata Steel Arun Narayan Singh will be the guest of honour.

Officials of Coin Collectors? Club said coin lovers this year will not only get an opportunity to get a glimpse of ancient coins but can participate in seminars and sessions.

Harendra Kumar Sinha, media coordinator of the club, said, ?This year, we?ve decided to organise sessions and seminars during the exhibition to educate the visitors. It will reveal interesting facts about ancient coins. The exhibitors and club members have also been asked to explain the history and importance of every coin to the visitors.?

Over 35 dealers, 12 well-known numismatist and scholars from all over the country will participate in the exhibition. Sinha said, ?We?ve asked schools to send children to the fair so that they can gain knowledge about coins.?

The seminars will also motivate children to take an interest in coin collection and take it up as a hobby. Rare silver and gold coins from the Kushan, Gupta and Mughal period, native state coins and commemorative coins of India and other countries will be displayed.

The club members will also have the option of exchanging coins with other members and exhibitors during the exhibition.

General secretary of Coin Collectors? Club, Kalyan Guha, said, ?The Coin Collectors? Club of Jamshedpur is the only numismatic society in Jharkhand and Bihar. We have been organising the exhibition since 1994 and like previous years we are confident of an overwhelming response.?

The club has decided to present a token coin on J.R.D. Tata to club members, dealers and delegates as the city is celebrating the birth centenary J.R.D. Tata.
