Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration has decided to introduce smart classes in state-run high schools to make the learning process easy and effective in the absence of requisite number of teachers.
The district administration will implement the centrally-sponsored information and communication technology (ICT) in schools scheme in all the 22 state-run 10+2 cradles across 11 blocks.
The schools will have smart classes with digital boards and audio visual system that will enable students understand the concepts in a better way.
Besides smart classes in each section of IX-XII, 10 additional computers will be procured for each school to help students in their assignments.
This will also enable a large section of rural students to access computes and use them in a constructive way.
According to officials of the district education department and senior teachers, visual learning plays a crucial role in clarifying concepts and helping students have a better grasp over subjects.
The district education department has already floated a tender welcoming companies interested in implementing the initiative by July this year. The academic content will also be provided by the company.
District education officer R.K.P. Singh said Rs 10 lakh would have to be spent on each school under the project. However, a final estimate is yet to be prepared.
"We wanted to do this for long and I am happy that it is materialising now. Private schools already have this facility and now we want our children to avail the same. We expect to start the work in July as the tender closes next month," Singh said.
He said the projects also envisaged the appointment of a teacher who would train students and other teachers on ways to use information technology in classrooms.
"We will enter into a tie-up with the company for three years, which will give us enough time to gauge the success of the project," Singh said.
