Jamshedpur: Exams. Internships and career prospects. Networking. Social media image issues. Family or love life complications. College students have more reasons to feel stressed nowadays.

Many stressed-out youths may not need one-on-one counselling but only some useful tips to deal with stress.

Keeping this in mind, the well-known Karim City College, which is affiliated to Kolhan University, is holding stress management session for students from Saturday, becoming the first institution under Kolhan varsity to start such an initiative.

The first session - more workshops will follow - was held at Karim City BEd College, Mango, where 70 students attended the 90-minute-long workshop on stress management tips conducted by the college's psychology professor Zaki Akhtar.

Akhtar told students to vent out their stress with physical activity, doing what one loves, sleeping more and talking to someone trustworthy.

Another faculty member of Karim City BEd College, Ritu Raj said stress nowadays was a part and parcel of life from a young age and so everyone must know how to live with it. "Lives have become complicated. We thought it was a good idea to equip our students with simple stress-busters," she said.

Karim City College (Sakchi campus) will introduce stress management sessions for its undergraduate students from academic year 2018-19 under its internal quality assurance cell. The college will offer five-six sessions to freshers and a separate session on exam stress for final-year students. The college is in process of forming a team for this with psychology professors.

Yahiya Ibrahim, senior faculty member of English, said talks were on to form the team of professors who would conduct stress-busting sessions. "We will be regular in hosting these short-term stress-busting sessions to help students so that they know what to do in complex situations. We think this is a life skill that they need to learn in college," he said.

Karim City has 6,000 students and three campuses, the main in Sakchi and two more in Mango, for BEd and intermediate classes.
