Jamshedpur, Oct. 18: A love marriage is no cakewalk, or so says Chetan Bhagat’s fourth and latest book, 2 States — The Story of My Marriage.
The plot revolves around the real life love story of Chetan and his wife Anusha and talks about issues most people encounter in their youth. The book focuses on love marriages in the country, that too inter-community ones, and highlights how important it is for both partners’ families to like each other if the love has to culminate into marriage.
The book, as always with Chetan Bhagat, has been a hit with youngsters ever since it was launched on October 9.
“The author has written from his experience and his life will obviously intrigue many readers. Inter-community marriages are still not that common and only boy and girl loving each other is not enough, as families have to like each other also. Couples in successful love marriages will read it more,” said Shruti Das, a first-year student of Karim City College.
Meanwhile, bookstore owners are obviously happy with the response as the copies have been flying off the shelves. “His first novel Five Point Someone created ripples when it was released in 2004 and so it has been with every book of his. The 2 States — The Story of My Marriage is no exception and we have already sold over 50 copies in a week. We placed an order for 400 more copies. The author has the potential to give one bestseller after another,” said Mukhtyar Singh, the proprietor of Wasawa Singh’s in Bistupur.
“Though the book may not be called a literary piece, the storytelling technique is special. There is a craze for his works among youngsters,” said Rina Mehta, a homemaker and a fan of Chetan Bhagat’s works as well.
Agarwal Bookstore in Bistupur has sold about a hundred copies after the book released.
“The book is in great demand. In fact after his first book, there has been a huge craze for all his works, all of which became best-sellers. This is because the author knows how and what to tell his readers. We have ordered more copies,” said Bimal Agarwal, the proprietor of the store.
