Bokaro, Sept. 16: A CID team led by its DSP Baban Kumar started fresh investigations today against sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Chas, Renubala.
The probe, prompted by a notification from director-general of police (DGP) Vishnu Dayal Ram, relates to a case in which the SDPO had allegedly framed an innocent businessman of the city.
Police sources said the case under investigation was related with a police raid in a leading business establishment named “Sports Star”. The SDPO had raided the shop on 20 December 2007 at 10 am but she had to return empty handed as nothing objectionable was found at the shop. However, the cop returned after half an hour, went near the garbage stock of the shop, alleged that she had found two live cartridges there and lodged an Arms Act case against proprietor Alka Jain and her husband Avinash Jain. Avinash was at the shop counter during the second visit of the cop.
Soon after the FIR (191/07) was lodged, hundreds of businessmen of Bokaro steel city protested the false FIR and met DIG Anurag Gupta demanding an independent inquiry into the matter. Later, sensing foul play, the DIG ordered the DSP of Bokaro Sandhya Rani Mehta to conduct an official inquiry.
In her inquiry report, DSP Mehta stated and the role of SDPO was questionable beyond doubt. She branded the case as fabricated. The official observed that the cartridges were recovered without any arm under suspicious conditions, and Renubala’s role in lodging the FIR was dubious.
