Ranchi, Dec. 12: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is learnt to have set the stage for diluting the Hindi curriculum for certain classes by doing away with a substantial part of grammar.

Though the bid, which would affect Classes I, III, VI, IX and XI, is in its foetus stage and textbooks are being prepared, the Union government?s move has earned the resentment of Hindi teachers in Jharkhand. They cautioned that any attempt to curtail the curriculum of the national language would mean dispiriting the essence and purity of the language.

According to NCERT sources, these efforts are being taken to get rid the curriculum of ?complex? aspects such as parts of speech and division of words. The plea offered by NCERT authorities is that the division of words in above categories creates a sense of division among the students and memorising the definitions of parts of speech is a tough task that distracts students from the basic purpose of the language.

Senior Hindi professor at S.S. Memorial College, S.N. Pandey, said: ?In case a student is deprived of studying parts of speech and division of words and other such nuances of a language, how can we expect them to grasp the essence of a language.?

The current move seems to be an attempt to kill the purity of the language and reduce Hindi to ?sadak-chhap? dialect, he added.

Mukul Khandelwal, professor of Graduate School College for Women, said: ?Attempts like this is sure to do a big disservice to the cause of a language and literature.?
