Ranchi, April 1: It’s time to get immersed in festivities yet again.
Baisakhi is approaching and the city is getting ready to celebrate the harvest season with vigour and grandeur.
Processions, kirtan, grand feast and cultural programmes have been lined up by social organisations and clubs to welcome the Hindu New Year.
But those who were looking forward to visit Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Gurunanak in Pakistan, on Baisakhi might have to let go of the plan.
A trip to the holy place would not happen due to secuirty reasons. The general secretary of Shri Gurusingh Sabha, Paramjeet Singh Chana, said that unlike every year this time they were not given the permission to travel to Pakistan.
“Unless we get the permission from the state government, we are unable to make trips to the neighbouring country,” Chana said.
The clubs have grand plans up its sleeve.
The festivities start at Ranchi Club from on April 11 itself when it would be celebrating pre-Baisakhi festival. On the day, singers and orchestra from Calcutta and Jamshedpur would make the members shake a leg on latest Punjabi numbers while dance troupes would regale them.
“This is one of the occasions for which the members wait the whole year so, we are trying to make it a grand one,” said Jyoti Bajaj, the in charge of entertainment committee of the club.
Harjeet Singh Sahni, the secretary of Gurunanak Higher Secondary School, said they are going to invite raagis (singers) from Punjab to render devotional songs. “Bhangra by folk artist would also be a part of the celebrations,” he said.
Sahni said that a grand feast, langar would also be part of the celebration on the school premises on April 14.
