Jamshedpur, Dec. 6: In an attempt to provide affordable treatment to cancer patients in the eastern region, Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in association with Meharbai Tata Memorial Hospital (MTMH) and the government would set up a cancer care centre in the steel city.

TMH general manager Manoj Kumar Prasad said this at the inaugural function of the National Oncology Conference organised by TMH in association with Indian Association of Surgical Oncology and Indian Society of Gastroenterology here today.

About 20 cancer experts, including Parul Shukla from Mumbai, A.A. Hai from Patna, Adarsh Choudhary and Anil Agarwal from New Delhi, delivered lectures at the conference.

A total of 150 delegates from across the country were participating in the two-day conference being held in the city.

According to Prasad, the cancer care centre would function under the supervision of a core group of experts from both hospitals.

The centre would provide surgery and radiation therapy at an affordable cost so that patients of the region would not have to visit Mumbai or Vellore for treatment.
