Jamshedpur, Sept. 21: Commuters on the bridge that links Mango with Sakchi were held up for the second day in a row as long-route buses were parked haphazardly outside the busy Mango bus stand.

The traffic was held up beyond the Mango bus stand as there was no police to discipline the congested roads. It was only after 10am that the traffic could be cleared.

According to the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), a private contractor had been assigned cementation work inside the Mango bus stand. Thus, buses could not be parked on the premises and around 50 buses were seen lined up in front of the bus stand.

The JNAC is setting up two bus stands for private vehicles, as well as for buses plying under the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), in Mango.

The construction of BSRTC’s bus stand had been completed a couple of months ago and handed over to the department concerned, while the private bus stand is almost ready.

The Jamshedpur Bus Association (JBA) has written an application to deputy commissioner Nitin Madan Kulkanri asking for space on the BSRTC premises for parking the buses. So far, the district administration has not responded to the request.

Additional deputy commissioner, Rakesh Kumar is unaware of the letter. “The district administration will surely look into the matter and try to provide parking space,” he said, adding that the deputy commissioner is on official leave.

But chief patron of the JBA, Upendra Sharma has said district administration would be responsible for any accidents that occur because of the congestion.

Meanwhile, the commuters had a tough time negotiating the Mango bridge. “It appears that the programme will continue for a few days. The district administration should take the situation under control,” said Zaved Akhtar, a resident of Mango.
