Ranchi, Feb 17: A major link failure in the mobile services of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was caught today in a ?prestige issue? of the department bosses who refused to admit disruption in the network.

?Nothing is wrong and the services are perfectly in shape,? said the chief general manager of Jharkhand circle, Mahendra Kumar.

He admitted of having ?no idea? about the problem, even as a harried lot of subscribers made frantic calls to the office of the telephone major on the landline.

Kumar said the problem could be in a particular Base Transmission Station (BTS). ?Give me your cell number and I will prove that everything is perfectly alright,? said Kumar. But he, too, could not dial a single BSNL connection from his landline.

The customer care services too failed to respond for the whole day.

The problem, which began last night, could not be rectified till the filing of this report.

However, reports of trouble with the BSNL network kept on pouring from different parts of the state, such as Hazaribagh, Bokaro and Dhanbad.

The subscribers said they were neither receiving the call nor were able to make any calls to others. They said they were not even able to send SMS from their BSNL mobiles.

Even the top bosses of the department, including Kumar, general manager S.N. Singh and general manager (mobile) Biswajit Paul could not be reached on their cell phones because of the link failure.

Throughout the day, those who tried on any BSNL cell number had to listen to the pre-recorded messages such as ?the call cannot be completed? or ?check operator services? or ?network busy? or ?all lines in this route are busy, please call later?.

?I have not received a single call throughout the day whereas on any normal day, I receive not less than 25 calls,? said a trader. There are more than 2 lakh subscribers of the BSNL?s mobile service in the state.
