Cheque racket
Palamau: The proprietor of Ashu Press was arrested on Monday in connection with the Rs 2.34-crore cheque racket in the district.
The mastermind of the racket, revenue employee Shailesh Kumar, was arrested last week. Ashu Press owner Ishuman is alleged to have received Rs 50 lakh for helping Shailesh fudge cheques. "Ishuman was apparently going to consult a lawyer when he was arrested outside the civil courts. He will be produced before a judge," said Sanjay Kumar, OC of Town thana. Ishuman has revealed bank accounts to which he had transferred the money on Shailesh's instructions.

Ranchi: Chief secretary Rajbala Verma has through a video conference instructed the mukhiyas of different panchayats in Khunti, Chatra, Latehar and Palamu districts to uproot illegal opium and poppy plantations in their respective domains.

Daltonganj: Palamau DC Amit Kumar on Monday directed officials to ensure that the families displaced by the Batane water reservoir project were given compensation to build houses. Out of 1,064 displaced families, 483 are yet to be compensated

Bandhan Bank loot
Ranchi: Six gunmen, who masked their identities with helmets, decamped with Rs 1.84 lakh from Bandhan Bank's Anandmai Nagar branch in Ratu thana area, on the outskirts of Ranchi, around 7pm on Monday.
Ratu OC Ramod Narayan Singh said there were five employees and six customers inside. "Cashier Yugal Kishore Nayak was disbursing money when the gang barged in. The bank didn't have any security guard or CCTV camera. It was also kept open beyond normal hours," he added.

Ranchi: Jharkhand State Cricket Association on Monday released a route for reaching the JSCA stadium in Dhurwa during the Test match between India and Australia from March 16.

Ranchi: The 87 oxen, which were recovered from Ranchi on Sunday, were distributed among 44 villagers for agricultural purpose on Monday.
Jailed
Ranchi: One Rashid Mustafa (34), a resident of Bano Manjil Road, was on Monday sent to jail for illegally carrying banned notes worth Rs 10.86 lakh. He was arrested on Sunday.

Dhanbad: The DMC on Monday decided to carry out repair of all the defunct hand pumps in its 55 wards. Separate tenders for the repair of hand pumps will be taken in each of five circles.
Cash pat for player
State sports minister Amar Kumar Bauri on Monday announced he would present a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to emerging athlete Basanti Hembrom, a student of Jamshedpur Women's College, for her training needs. Basanti claimed gold in 3000 metres and 5000 metres runs at the state athletics meet held in Bokaro, and bagged top slot in 3,000 metres at an east zone meet in Guwahati, both last year.
The minister, who made this announcement at her college, also took her Aadhaar card to process the payment.
Biz con arrest
Police arrested one Md Shiraz Khan, 40, for misappropriating lakhs from Shambhu Shekhar, a retired officer of Tayo Rolls, on the pretext of setting up a packaged water plant. Complainant Shekhar said Khan had approached him with a proposal to set up a packaged water plant costing Rs 60 lakh. Shekhar paid Khan a good sum of the capital. Khan neither set up the plant nor paid Shekhar the cash.
Snatch cuffs
Two youths were on Monday arrested for allegedly snatching a cellphone from a man at Baridih in Sidhgora thana area on Saturday night. Those arrested were identified as Vikrant Rai (24) and Vishal Mahto (25). The duo, on a bike, had snatched the cellphone of pedestrian Vishal Nandi.
Minister aid
Minister and Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy on Monday visited Baba Premdas School at Daiguttu in Mango and promised to help in building boundary walls and toilet in the school via his MLA fund.
MNAC review
Mango Notified Area Committee special officer Jagdish Yadav on Monday told the principal secretary of urban development, Arun Kumar Singh during a review meet, that they had built a shelter at Kumrum Basti for Rs 69 lakh and training centre and community toilet at Pardih roundabout for Rs 57 lakh.
