GST bill session

Ranchi: A special monsoon session of state Assembly will be held on August 17 to debate GST bill, which has been passed by both of the houses of the Parliament. Speaker Dinesh Oraon announced this on Thursday.

Surrender

Ranchi: Former director of Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency Sanjay Sinha on Thursday surrendered before a special Anti-Corruption Bureau court of Ashutosh Dubey in the 2012 solar light scam. He was granted 14 days' judicial custody.

Protest

Ranchi: All Indian Human Rights Association on Thursday demonstrated in front of Raj Bhawan for an hour, demanding justice for Bundu dalit minor Rupesh Swansi. It also submitted a memorandum addressed to governor Droupdi Murmu.

Subroto Cup

Simdega: Simdgea and Kolebira blocks won the district-level Subroto Cup on Thursday.

Children rescued

Ranchi: Six children, aged between 10 and 13 years, were rescued from a chow mein factory run by one Tridev Nand in Doranda on Thursday.

Four of the children belong to Samastipur while the others are from Madhubani and Vaishali districts of Bihar. They have been sent to Jharkhand state-run shelter Balashray in Pandra.

Stadium visit

Ranchi: A three-member team of New Zealand Cricket inspected the JSCA stadium in Dhurwa for the October 26 New Zealand-India ODI. The team comprised Catherine Anne Campbell, Henry F. More and Ian David Snare. They were accompanied by BCCI officials Sumeet Mallapurkar and Dheeraj Malhotra.

Bribe cuffs

Bokaro: A sub-inspector was arrested accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on Thursday. Sadanand Hembrom, posted at Balidih thana, demanded the bribe from S.K. Rai, kin of robber Giridhari Rai, to write a diary that could facilitate bail.

Arms arrests

Ranchi: Two men, Kaushal said Nitesh Kumar Verma (22) and Rajdeo Verma (24), were held with two small fire arms and ammunitions from Tharpakhana on Wednesday night.

Fatal mishap

Truck driver Sandeep Topno (32) was fatally injured as the vehicle he was driving had a head-on collision with another truck at Chowka on the NH-33 in Chandil thana area, about 40km from here in the small hours on Thursday.

Police rushed Topno, a resident of Khunti, to MGM Medical College and Hospital where he was declared as brought dead. The driver of the other truck was arrested and the vehicle seized.

Exhumed

The body of Prakash Soren (10) allegedly killed by his uncle on Tuesday, was exhumed on Thursday from a field at Jota village, Seraikela-Kharsawan, some 50km from Jamshedpur. Accused uncle Bhakto Soren was lynched by villagers the day Prakash died.

Netaji aide

East Singhbhum DC Amit Kumar on Thursday offered condolence to the family of freedom fighter Soumendra Karmakar who died on Wednesday at his Birsanagar home. Karmakar, associated with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, died of cardiac failure. He was 90.

Archery

Sports minister Amar Kumar Bauri on Thursday inaugurated a residential archery training center at Kumardungi block, West Singhbhum.
